The story behind the
quartet...
Inspired
by artists like Michael Bublé, Frank Sinatra and Elvis, OC Times
breathes new life into swing standards, rock and roll classics, and
even some country favorites.
Hailing from Orange
County, CA, Shawn York (tenor), Sean Devine (lead), Pat Claypool
(baritone) and Cory Hunt (bass) take barbershop harmony back to where
it started over a century ago: pop-culture.
In 2008, OC Times won
the Barbershop Harmony Society's International Quartet Championship.
They have been featured in major publications such as The Wall Street
Journal, Saturday Evening Post and SPIN magazine. The quartet is also
featured prominently in a documentary film entitled “American Harmony.”
Their first studio
album, “Let’s Fly” (2007), has reached critical acclaim, winning
Contemporary A cappella Recording Awards for both Best Barbershop Album
and Best Barbershop Song. Their sophomore album “Destinations” (2010)
quickly became another award-winning fan favorite – while their highly
anticipated third album “The Road” will be released in July of 2014!
OC Times has toured
extensively throughout the United States, headlining shows in venues
such as Honolulu’s historic Hawaii Theater, Los Angeles' Disney Concert
Hall and the world famous Carnegie Hall in New York City. The quartet
has also toured internationally with performances in Canada, Mexico,
England, Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Finland, Sweden, Russia, New
Zealand, Japan – upcoming engagements include a return visit to New
Zealand, and their first appearance at the British Association of
Barbershop Singers convention in Harrogate, England!

Shawn York -
Born in Rescue, California, Shawn currently resides in South Corona,
CA. He began singing barbershop shortly after seeing a bumper sticker
that read “Want to sing barbershop? Call 1-800-876-SING.” The rest is
history. Shawn earned his bachelor’s degree in Music Education from
Vanguard University, and currently owns and operates a Chick-fil-A
restaurant in Corona. In his spare time, Shawn enjoys spending time
with his lovely Hawaiian wife, Lani, and their four children, Kalea,
Kainoa, Kapono and Kahana. We’re not sure if he’s trying to grow
another quartet, or just recruiting for his restaurant... but either
way, he’s got his hands full.
Sean Devine -
Originally
from The Sweetest Place on Earth (Hershey, PA), Sean moved out west to
California in 2001 to perform full-time with a professional doo-wop
group - The Alley Cats. In July 2008 he relocated again to the
Barbershop Harmony Society headquarters in “Music City, USA” to work as
a Director of Development with their fund raising arm - Harmony
Foundation International. Sean earned his bachelor’s degree in
Organizational Leadership from Azusa Pacific University, and is now
excited to be back in his hometown of Hershey working in executive
development. He is also a certified Barbershop Harmony Society
Presentation judge, and in his spare time enjoys serving as a clinician
for vocal and performance workshops all around the world.
Cory Hunt –
Born
and raised in the gem of the Silver State, Reno, NV, Cory is the
“biggest little bass in the Society,” and pound for pound, he just
might be the best in the business! Cory is a graduate from the
University of Nevada, Reno, in Political Science and Cultural Geography
and is currently working towards his Masters Degree at the University
of Southern California. After working for 3 years with an environmental
policy and management-consulting firm in South Lake Tahoe, Cory
returned home to Nevada where he now serves as a member of Governor
Brian Sandoval’s staff.
Patrick Claypool –
Our
only native to Orange County, Pat was born and raised in the city of
Orange, CA. He was introduced to barbershop at age 12, joining his
grandfather in the Orange Quartet Chapter. Pat has yet to finish (or
even start) college, although he frequently boasts of the honor roll
status he achieved throughout his high school years. Pat lives in Los
Angeles, CA, and is currently employed as a trainer at The Yard House,
where he provides ‘unbridled’ guest service and requests that you ask
for him by name for your dining pleasure.
